Instead, the control characters are shown like ESC[1mNAMEESC[0m Test Seems like some environment is missing. It works with "su". I don't know the cause of the bug. And honestly, I don't even care. I just saw that bug and reported it so that it can be fixed. I consider that bug report as hint "hey, your software has a bug", nothing more, nothing less. Should I stop reporting any bug that I cannot (and have no time to) fix myself? You're correct that the problem is GROFF_NO_SGR not being exported by sudo, though. So it's neither a perl nor a man/roff problem. Good for us ;-) I don't know if GROFF_NO_SGR should be added to the "env_keep" line in /etc/sudoers. I see the next complain coming that "LESS" or "LESSBINFMT" or CVSROOT or whatever else isn't passed through. I do not know whether that variable is safe, we'd have to audit the code that uses it. I doubt this is worth the effort.
