In /etc/sysconfig/network/dhcp you have to wirte the human readable form, but intern the hex presentation will be used and stored in /var/lib/dhcpcd/dhcpcd-ethN.info too. In man page stands: "If clientid matches a hardware address format, such as 01:00:01:02:03:04:05 then we encode it as that, otherwise as a string." But the match function was bad and "42" was matched as an hardware address too.
