https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=231757 andreas.hanke@gmx-topmail.de changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |andreas.hanke@gmx-topmail.de ------- Comment #1 from andreas.hanke@gmx-topmail.de 2007-01-04 09:57 MST ------- Just for your information: Package description translations are _not_ handled via spec files, but via a special database (called "pdb" - "product database"). It's not enough that a spec file with translated string exists, the spec file cannot be used as-is for technical reasons and someone would have to transfer the strings into pdb. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=231757 ------- Comment #2 from misc@dstoecker.de 2007-01-04 15:23 MST ------- I know from the old report. :-) Maybe there should be an automatic (or semi-automatic) import tool, or you will always be behind the upstream releases of tools which have own translations. Seems to be the same topic for desktop files. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=231757 ke@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |coolo@novell.com ------- Comment #3 from ke@novell.com 2007-01-05 01:49 MST ------- First, desktop files are unrelated and there is a process in place to exchange the translations. Managing package description translations is a little bit different now. Translations updates must now done as part of the suse-i18n project at https://forgesvn1.novell.com/svn/suse-i18n/trunk/packages. For more info about suse-i18n, see http://developer.novell.com/wiki/index.php/Suse-i18n . Because packages descrition updates are not mandatory for the products, we can also accept volunteering translators for "official" languages. Thus, if you are interested in helping with these translation, please apply for an SVN account as explained in the wiki. Caveat: I'm not sure, whether we can already import translations from the SVN into the PDB (from where the build systems picks them up). Caveat 2: No promises that there is enough space on the installation media to add arbitrary package desc trans to the product. On the flip side: only if translations are available, the openSUSE team might be willing to solve the space issue... Coolo, I hope I got these things right; if not, please add corrections. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=231757 ------- Comment #4 from misc@dstoecker.de 2007-01-05 07:35 MST ------- Well, I'm the maintainer of the upstream pavuk package. I don't have the time to redo the work already done in the base release, there is enough other work to be done. For me it is only strange, that the information already contained in the source packages is wasted without reason. A perl-script to import translations from the spec files should be a matter of an hour. Maybe the desktop-file translations are stored in another place, but the problem behind is the same. I only know the KDE system a bit and there such scripts automatically update translations in all directions to have a consistent system. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=231757 ------- Comment #5 from ke@novell.com 2007-01-05 08:16 MST ------- But, but you must not import all translations without checking. There is no guaranty that translations coming with spec files are up-to-date and properly translated. In the long run, we also want to write the package labels and descriptions in a consistent manner. So we cannot even take over existing English versions. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Pavuk is an exception that it comes with a translated spec file - we do not handle this right now. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
