[Bug 236228] New: Installation in text mode does not install mountpoints for dvd etc.; automount also doesn't work
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=236228 Summary: Installation in text mode does not install mountpoints for dvd etc.; automount also doesn't work Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: martin@oneiros.de QAContact: jsrain@novell.com I understand that automount is only supposed to work with KDE/Gnome, i.e. in runlevel 5. But why does an installation for textmode (i.e. runlevel 3) not install any mounpoints for removable devices like /dev/dvd? The system has - one SCSI-CD-ROM (/dev/cdrom -> sr0) - one DVD-ROM (/dev/dvd -> hdd) - one DVD-Burner (/dev/dvdrecorder -> hdc) The installed system has no entries for these devices in /etc/fstab and no mountpoints for them (e.g. /media/dvd or /dvd). Bug 230729 is related, but doesn't really concern textmode. Btw: ivman in its default configuration doesn't help. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

All this is now handled via HAL. So this is as expected. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Automounting doesn't work and mountpoints or fstab entries are not created. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Is OpenSUSE a desktop only system? And would it be so hard that you are not even thinking about it (by marking this bug as INVALID) to change the installation so that in this case mountpoints and fstab entries would be generated? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=236228 fehr@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|REOPENED |RESOLVED Resolution| |INVALID ------- Comment #6 from fehr@novell.com 2007-01-19 05:55 MST ------- The decision to remove fstab entries and to not create any mount points was done by project management of SuSE Linux. I am just the one who implemented this decision. So what you mention is certainly not a bug, but was done intentional. Therefore this is an INVALID bug report. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=236228 ------- Comment #7 from martin@oneiros.de 2007-01-22 09:10 MST ------- Allright, so it's a misfeature. Just curious: How does SLES10 handle this? And what will SLES11 do? While this behaviour might be acceptable for a desktop system, for servers it's IMHO a bug. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=236228 ------- Comment #8 from fehr@novell.com 2007-01-29 03:41 MST ------- SLES10 is not different to SL 10.2 SLES11 is far away but so far I do not know of any plans to change this for SLES11. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
