[Bug 277337] New: Yast and KDE: (almost) every time in two tries, yast does not start
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=277337 Summary: Yast and KDE: (almost) every time in two tries, yast does not start Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bluedzins@wp.pl QAContact: jsrain@novell.com I run yast via keyboard shorcut (win+y), I can see the bouncing cursor as a visual feedback app is starting up. But then... nothing (*). It is not exact statistics but I could say that I have to "run" yast twice to get it really started. (*) by nothing I mean I don't get even password dialog (I run yast from normal user account). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I cannot tell if it exists if I run it from Konsole because I don't do this. And in order to do so, I would have to do it for a longer period of time to say that in average 50% of attempts fail. But, I could run Konsole with argument to execute (yast), and this I could bind to keyboard shortcut. Would this be ok to make tests? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Handling your poor reports is such a waste of time. Let me repeat, this time stressing the important parts: How EXACTLY did you set up the shortcut (where, etc.)? How EXACTLY did you set up the shortcut (where, etc.)?
I moved the mouse cursor to the most upper, left corner, where the KMenu icon is. I clicked on KMenu. The KMenu showed up. I moved mouse cursor down, to Personal Settings. I clicked on it. Then I choosed (in PS) "Regional & Accessibility" item, and next "Keyboard shortcuts". Then I chose "Command shortcuts" tab, there were KMenu entries, I chose System -> Yast. I clicked twice on that item, I pressed win+Y, and after that I pressed "Apply". Exactly enough?
Does the problem EXIST also if you run it from Konsole?
/sbin/yast2 ? No. It runs in different mode (user). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Does the same problem occur when some other menu entry (try System/Terminal/Terminal Super User mode and Personal Settings)?
No, it uses another way to get the root password.
Does the same problem occur when running 'kdesu -u root -c /sbin/yast2' from Konsole
No. I tried it several times. But note that when I was reporting this problem I was not talking about 10 attempts -- I noticed it after a long time of use. So I guess it would be good to try something I could use also for a longer period of time. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

How does it fail then, it works one months and doesn't work another month?
:-) No. On average it fails once in two attempts (fail/success/fail/success/fail/success, etc.), but it does not mean, that it will fail once today. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
