[Bug 259696] New: Initialization fails on JMicron SATA2 controller
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=259696 Summary: Initialization fails on JMicron SATA2 controller Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: 64bit OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: roger.larsson@norran.net QAContact: qa@suse.de The SATA II controller (SATA II = JMicron JMB360) on my Motherboard (ASRock 939Dual-SATAII) has been unused for quite some time. But now my hardisks are soon to become full... so I bought a new Western Digital 400GB SATA II disk. I reconfigured BIOS to use the SATA controller in SATA mode (default is ISA) and booted... "libata version 2.00 loaded. ahci 0000:03:00.0: version 2.0 ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:03:00.0[A] -> GSI 35 (level, low) -> IRQ 90 ahci 0000:03:00.0: controller reset failed (0xffffffff) ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:03:00.0 disabled ahci: probe of 0000:03:00.0 failed with error -5" I have done some digging and found this related patch: http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/3/1/453 I have not yet tried to use it on the OpenSuse 10.2 kernel... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

In opensuse 10.2 kernel, it's failing controller reset (AHCI HOST_RESET). In libata-dev, it's failing to stop engine - START is not being cleared. In the opensuse 10.2 kernel, your controller is reporting 0xffffffff as HOST_CTL value. It's probably doing similar in libata-dev case too. 0xffffffff is the value you get when PCI bus cannot read from the register, so PCI configuration might be off or something is actually wrong with the controller. The former one is more probable as BIOS can drive the controller properly. Please report the result of 'lspci -nnvvv' and 'hwinfo --all'. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
