[Bug 946399] New: zypper hangs when installing a large number of software patterns
http://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=946399 Bug ID: 946399 Summary: zypper hangs when installing a large number of software patterns Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: 13.2 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: libzypp Assignee: zypp-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: hguo@suse.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- On the EC2 openSUSE 13.2 image: suse-opensuse-13-2-20141126-hvm-ssd-x86_64 (ami-020a3b1f) Calling zypper to install almost every pattern that openSUSE 13.2 has to offer results in hanging, 100% of CPU usage, and endless blank line output in the standard out. Both zypper log and systemd journal are quiet when it happens. The command is: zypper install -t pattern 64bit apparmor base books console devel_C_C++ devel_basis devel_gnome devel_ide devel_java devel_kde devel_kernel devel_mono devel_perl devel_python devel_python3 devel_qt4 devel_qt5 devel_rpm_build devel_ruby devel_tcl devel_web devel_yast dhcp_dns_server directory_server e17 enhanced_base file_server fonts games gateway_server gnome gnome_basis imaging kde kde4_basis lamp_server laptop lxde mail_server mate mate_basis misc_server multimedia network_admin non_oss office print_server remote_desktop sw_management tabletpc technical_writing voip x11 x86 xfce xfce_basis yast2_basis yast2_install_wf First zypper will find an unsatisfied dependency, choose solution 1 (deinstallation of krb5-mini) and the issue will follow. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

# zypper in --debug-solver nopackage ... Generating solver test case... Solver test case generated successfully at /var/log/zypper.solverTestCase. Then pack the output directory together with /var/log/zypper.log and attach it to the bugreport.
In case the testcase exceeds the 10MB limit for bugzilla uploads, you can use 'split' to divide the file into smaller pieces:
$ cd /tmp $ tar cvjf zypper.solverTestCase.tar.bz2 /var/log/zypper.solverTestCase/ $ split -b 9M --additional-suffix=-zypper.solverTestCase.tar.bz2 \ zypper.solverTestCase.tar.bz2 The created pieces will be named like this: xaa-zypper.solverTestCase.tar.bz2 xab-zypper.solverTestCase.tar.bz2 xac-zypper.solverTestCase.tar.bz2 ...

zypper --no-color install ..... or zypper install ..... | tee /tmp/zypperoutput change the behavior?
If not, please install gdb and the zypper-debuginfo package; run
gdb --args zypper install ..... At the prompt enter 'run'; once zypper hangs press CTRL-C to interrupt; enter 'bt' and attach the displayed backtrace. (leave gdb with 'quit')

Do you have access to an EC2 instance, by the way?

I can't reproduce this on the EC2 instance. The above command works with and without a --no-color option. Redirecting th output to /tmp/log on the machine also works an gives sane output. Are you using a broken terminal? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
