[Bug 232037] New: XOrg 7.2 with FBDev on ATI Radeo Mobility X1600 too loow in refresh video
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=232037 Summary: XOrg 7.2 with FBDev on ATI Radeo Mobility X1600 too loow in refresh video Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Keywords: Usability Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: tquerci@gmail.com QAContact: sndirsch@novell.com Hi, I just install OpenSUSE 10.2 on a HP Notebook that use ATI Mobility Radeon X1600. The right resolution is no listed in VESA MODE, but i I use another resolution the display is too slow to be used. So I try to install FEDORA Core 6 and at the same resolution the system can be used, but Fedora CORE 6 use XOrg 7.1 not 7.2 as SuSE. I try to look inside the code con FBDEV xorg driver and I discovery that the ShadowFB default value is change from TRUE to FALSE. So, I try to look on the xorg.freedesktop git site and I discovery thesome fix are made on this xorg module. So I simply try to download the new code, compile, and replace the XOrg fbdev Driver with the new one, and now the system work as on the Fedora XOrg driver. Please ugrade the fbdex xorg driver to the 0.3.1 new version. Sorry for my english. Ok ... I try the new driver and work as the once that I compiled
==> NEEDINFO again
So I suggest to delivery this update, otherwise other user that are less motivated to use OpenSuSE migrate to another distro.
I don't agree. The update won't help for the fbdev driver used during installation. Most users switch to fglrx driver right after installation anyway, no matter if ShadowFB is enabled/disabled, because it's not sufficient for them. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=232037 ------- Comment #4 from tquerci@gmail.com 2007-01-05 04:56 MST ------- You are right, but the ATI driver doesn't work on X1600 because support only X7.1 not 7.2, so without this fbdev the system is unusable. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=232037 ------- Comment #6 from tquerci@gmail.com 2007-01-05 05:09 MST ------- I try it but don't work with 7.2. Using it on Mandriva, the driver work properly. If you want, I reinstall the driver and send you the message, but as say another person ... you don't work to fix the problem of the proprietary driver ... :) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I try it You try what?
but don't work with 7.2. Shouldn't matter if you work with 7.2 (not released yet) or with 7.2 RC2 (shipped with openSUSE 10.2).
Using it on Mandriva, the driver work properly. I don't know, which X.Org release your Mandriva installation uses.
If you want, I reinstall the driver and send you the message, Which driver?
but as say another person ... you don't work to fix the problem of the proprietary driver ... :) Don't understand what you want to tell me with this sentence.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=232037 ------- Comment #8 from tquerci@gmail.com 2007-01-05 09:57 MST ------- Ok .... sorry for my English ... I know ... is awful ... :(( 1 - XORG that I use is the standard version of OpenSUSE 10.2 .. since the RPM is xorg-x11-server-7.2-30 I suppose that the version is 7.2. Reading inside the log file, the real version in: X Window System Version 7.1.99.902 (7.2.0 RC 2) Before make the test with the fbdevice I try to use the ATI driver ... but after several test I reinstall all testing other distro like Mandriva and FC6. Since in the FC6 using fbdev the sistem work properly (without 3d acceleration .. ok) I made other test using OpenSuSE. If you want I can install the flgrx driver from ATI, to make some test using the accelerated driver. Again, if another person have the same problem probally change the distro. Only for this reason I suggest to release an official upgrade of the driver. Instead, if the problem is related to have a good testing phase, I approved. Again ... my English is awful .. sorry .... Do you have very patient with me ..... Thank's -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=232037 ------- Comment #9 from sndirsch@novell.com 2007-01-05 10:07 MST ------- What I tried to ask you was to test the new xorg-x11-driver-video RPM on openSUSE 10.2 to test if the problem really has been fixed. Of course you can also try the proprietary ATI driver with openSUSE 10.2. Hope this helps. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=232037 ------- Comment #10 from tquerci@gmail.com 2007-01-05 10:23 MST ------- Ok ... this driver version fix the problem on my ATI video card. I can't install the proprietary driver 'cause doesn't work. But without this fix the system was unusable. For me the bug is closed. Only suggest to release this fix as soon as possible to help other user like me, but with less patience and experience ...
