https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=801561 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=801561#c0 Summary: memtest86+ is not working in grub 2 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: RC 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader AssignedTo: jsrain@suse.com ReportedBy: mcaj@suse.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: Community User Blocker: --- Hi, Because we had trouble with the memtest in the past, i decided test it this time more then we did last time ;) It looks like the new version second version of grub has a problem to load memtest. If you are using the old one (0.97) the memtest is working fine. I tested the DVD ISO openSUSE-DVD-Build0348-x86_64 and this works fine too. If you are using new grub (2.00) as bootloader there is a fallowing trouble: Steps to Reproduce: 1. install OpenSUSE 12.3 (Beta 1) I think RC1 isn't out yet, as new installation on a machine. 2. update the machine with latest updates. 3. install memtest86+ e.g.via 'zypper in memtest86+' 4. check memtest menu in the grub2 (/boot/grub2/grub.cfg ) by default looks like this: ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/20_memtest86+ ### menuentry 'openSUSE Memtest' --class opensuse --class memtest86 --class gnu --class tools $menuentry_id_option 'memtest-93983c0f-5b46-4fdf-bc8c-51a79ad7aaf1' { insmod part_msdos insmod ext2 set root='hd0,msdos2' if [ x$feature_platform_search_hint = xy ]; then search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root --hint-bios=hd0,msdos2 --hint-efi=hd0,msdos2 --hint-baremetal=ahci0,msdos2 --hint='hd0,msdos2' 93983c0f-5b46-4fdf-bc8c-51a79ad7aaf1 else search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root 93983c0f-5b46-4fdf-bc8c-51a79ad7aaf1 fi echo 'Loading memtest ...' linux16 /memtest.bin } ### END /etc/grub.d/20_memtest86+ ### 5. reboot the machine and select openSUSE Memtest as OS in the grub2 menu 6. the program gos to fallowing error: loading memtest Error: too small lower memory (0<99100>08f000) Press any key to continue... Then after some timeout it gos to the main grub window. The memtest itself works fine if you load it via old grub 0.97 or DVD.
