[Bug 483208] New: Postfix configuration trashed after update
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=483208 Summary: Postfix configuration trashed after update Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: suse-beta@cboltz.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Beta-Customer Created an attachment (id=277865) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=277865) postfix configuration files (tar.gz) I updated a server from openSUSE 11.0 to openSUSE 11.1 (using zypper dup). Afterwards, the postfix configuration was totally trashed. Some examples: - all lines in master.cf starting with an IP address were removed (I had setup one smtp processes per IP), and the default line for smtp was re-added Result: The default smtp had many "-o ..." lines - needless to say that it isn't useful to have all "-o" settings attached to a single smtp process - lots of settings in main.cf were reset to default values, but the comments describing my settings were kept. This is very visible at smtpd_recipient_restrictions, but affects lots of other settings also In short: Postfix was totally broken and closed the connection after the HELO (and AFAIK there's no automatic backup of the old, working config files) I'll attach a tarball with my postfix configuration. To give you an overview about the contained files: - main.cf and master.cf are the working versions from 11.0 which I copied back from a backup - *--broken-by-update are the broken files after the update to 11.1 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

--- Comment #2 from Christian Boltz
If you make manual changes in your mail configuration you have to set the variable MAIL_CREATE_CONFIG in /etc/sysconfig/mail to "no" to save your changes.
Ah, now I know where it hides ;-) It is really a bit hidden - since /etc/sysconfig/postfix exists, I overlooked /etc/sysconfig/mail (because I thought all settings are in /etc/sysconfig/postfix). That said, SuSEconfig should a) create a $file.SuSEconfig file if it detects that the to-be-modified file was changed manually (should be easy by storing a md5 or so) - or - b) at least make a backup $file.orig_before_SuSEconfig before destroying config files ;-)
Nevertheless this is a bug, that SuSEconfig.postfix can not handle IP-addresses in service.
Agreed. But please also consider the above - method a) preferred. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
