I used the KDE control center keyboard layout manager to switch to dvorak after the fact.
Sure, you can do that and then switch between "us" and "dvorak" via the KDE keyboard tool. So I rephrase my question. Is it fine for you to have dvorak as keyboard layout without the possibility to toggle between dvorak and us via Alt+Shift, but instead use the KDE tool for doing that?
However, what about switching the TTY keyboard layouts?
I'm afraid switching keyboard layouts on the Linux console has never been supported, has it? Besides running 'loadkeys' of course. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Its fine with me, because I don't ever actually switch keyboard layouts on a regular basis. I just use dvorak.

loadkeys does what I need it to. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

"Sure, you can do that and then switch between "us" and "dvorak" via the KDE keyboard tool."
Unfortunately the KDE keyboard tool will NOT switch layouts when there is more than one.
Sounds like a Bug in KDE.
Unless I have specified ONLY the Dvorak layout, at every log in to KDE I am presented with the US layout.
Apparently another bug in KDE.
The login screen also works only with the us layout.
This depends on the setting of /etc/sysconfig/keyboard:KEYTABLE. This is written by YaST during installation.
I chose Dvorak on one of the first screens when I was installing 11.2 but when I typed into the associated test box what came up was in the us layout.
Probably a Bug in YaST.
Switching layouts via KDE worked in all previous versions of SUSE since...about 2003.
Sounds like a regression in KDE. I suggest to open seperate bugreport filed against KDE and YaST. Please do not reopen this one. Thanks. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
