I expected that all SANE description files contain only info about the kind of scanners which SANE cares about (i.e. no fingerprint "scanner"). I will ask on the sane-devel mailing list if this entry is really intended or if it is a bug in unsupported.desc. I added the scanners from unsupported.desc to have proper permissions for all scanners (e.g. even for whatever third-party drivers) but the udev/HAL->suseplugger->YaST automatism does of coures make no sense for scanners which cannot be set up with YaST. E.g. enter "08ff" as USB vendor ID in http://www.sane-project.org/cgi-bin/driver.pl and follow the link "MD 85264" which leads to http://gkall.hobby.nl/authentec.html Meanwhile I wonder if it does really make no sense to launch YaST even for scanners which are unsupported because in YaST the user will see that this device is unsupported. YaST shows the device as follows: -------------------------------------------------------------------- Medion/Lifetec/Tevion/Cytron MD 85264: This scanner is not supported. (USB-ID 0x08ff:0x2580) [Fingerprint sensor. See http://www.sane-project.org for details] -------------------------------------------------------------------- This way the user is informed about the facts - even if he may not like them - but at least it saves him time with hopeless attempts when he is trying to set up his unsupported device.
