[Bug 286106] New: Ethernet activation requires reboot
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=286106 Summary: Ethernet activation requires reboot Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 5 Platform: i686 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mario_bz@mgtech.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Beta-Customer The HW is an ASUS motherboard with an ethernet 88E8052. Linux uses the sky2 driver. This problem was also in Alpha 4. During installation, ethernet does not appear to work, You are unable to download notes or update SW. After the installation is complete there is no access to the web, email, etc., you cannot add repositories or do any function requiring internet access. If I reboot after the installation everything is fine after that. You may reference bug 263065 to view HW information details. Unfortunately there are no logs of the time of the failure since it requires a full install to get back to that point. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This bug has reappeared in beta 3. I installed clean and the logs are attached right after the install when ethernet does not work and the same set after a reboot after they do work. I also did a netstat -i -r and see that it looks like no default route exists.
OK. It is not clear to me what is wrong here. The network can be broken in many ways. In what way is it broken for you? What commands did you issue and what were the actual and expected results. Is it "only" the missing default route? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
