[Bug 772553] New: Epiphany/Web mouse gestures don't work
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=772553 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=772553#c0 Summary: Epiphany/Web mouse gestures don't work Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: RC 1 Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mike.catanzaro@gmail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:14.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/14.0.1 Mouse gestures are completely broken in Epiphany/Web. They're still installed along with Epiphany Extensions, which are still installed by default when installing Epiphany/Web from Yast. But they just don't work. This is a regression from openSUSE 12.1. If this can't be fixed in time for 12.2, it's appropriate to consider removing gestures from the extensions package for that release. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install epiphany and epiphany-extensions 2. Enable the mouse gestures extension using the new super menu. 3. Try to use mouse gestures. (Remember that Epiphany/Web gestures use middle click.) No go. 4. Restart Epiphany/Web. Try to use gestures again. 5. Restart computer. Try to use gestures again. Actual Results: Mouse gestures do not work. Expected Results: Mouse gestures should work. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Thank you very much for your report.
As an immediate measure, we disabled the gesture extension; better no function advertised than advertising a broken one, right?
The bug has been reported to upstream. Once we get a fix, we'll ship it as an online update (or if 12.2 is not golden by then, we'll try to inject it into the GM) Thank you very much for taking care of it. :-) Let's hope upstream gets to it soon; I really like gestures but I do prefer Epiphany to other browsers....

I just wanted to note that I'm not sure how the tab key navigate is supposed to work, but it does work with Ctrl+Tab.
Wow, I'd never have found that myself. I imagine that's intended (and it makes the extension much more useful - Tab should be reserved for switching between page elements, and Ctrl+Tab is actually pretty easy to hit, using my right-hand for Ctrl). But an extremely serious strings flaw then, since any reasonable user would expect Tab alone to work from the description of the extension.
Also, how have you tested html5 tube, as it appears to work fine for me. That is, I can watch youtube videos that support html5/webm correctly, but if it's flash it shows the blue lego block error. Perhaps you have to sign up to view *any* html5 videos still: http://www.youtube.com/html5
The HTML5 trial on YouTube works, but that has nothing to do with this extension. Without signing up for the trial, you can't view any YouTube videos, regardless of whether or not the extension is enabled. After signing up for the trial, you can view most YouTube videos (I think all but the ones with ads), regardless of whether or not the extension is enabled. It just doesn't seem to do anything. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This is still broken in 12.2 final.
Beh.. the update never made it in the channel :(
However, I want to expand this bug to include other broken extensions besides Gestures: Tab Key Tab Navigate and HTML5Tube also appear broken.
That would better be addressed in a different bug (one per extension having issues). Otherwise it get's really messy to track what people are talking about in a bug.
Furthermore, the documentation for the extensions is extremely outdated - it documents many nonexistent extensions and fails to document many extensions that do exist (including Tab Key Tab Navigate).
Indeed.. documentation had been removed upstream for the next releases...
Unfortunately, Epiphany Extensions is installed by default when installing Epiphany from YaST. This is worth reconsidering due to the current poor quality of the extensions package.
Two ways out of this (none for 12.2; it's been released): - Not have it in 12.3 per default - Have it fixed for 12.3 per default. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Do you want me to make new bugs for Tab Key Tab Navigate (update description) and HTML5Tube, and rename this one back to Gestures?

Then I guess we don't need to worry about it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
