[Bug 220712] New: Printe HP Laserjet 1320 no good config
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=220712 Summary: Printe HP Laserjet 1320 no good config Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 2 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Printing AssignedTo: jsmeix@novell.com ReportedBy: Joachim.Reichelt@helmholtz-hzi.de QAContact: jsmeix@novell.com There are two ppd for this printer, one from the hplib project and a PS driver. Problem: The hplib driver is allways selected, if I select by model. The PS driver can only installed by selecting the ppd direct. The hplib driver supports only up to 600 dpi, the printer 1200 dpi. Many features are not supported. The PS-driver does not allow printing from "Printers default tray" The numbering is confusing: tray1 manual or not? (this is the manual feed!) If I use this driver, I allways have to push the "Contnue" button of the printer, no matter which tray etc. I select. But printout is a lot better -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

(YaST, CUPS web-interface, KDE printer setup tool, Gnome printer setup tool) If you used YaST, provide a YaST log file for exactly one setup of your printer. Provide the YaST log file as follows: 1. Have a clean state to start: Remove all your print queues in YaST and finish YaST. 2. Move the old YaST log file away: mv /var/log/YaST2/y2log /var/log/YaST2/y2log.old 3. Start YaST and do again setup your pinter. Finish YaST and save the log file: cp -p /var/log/YaST2/y2log /var/log/YaST2/y2log.save 4. Attach /var/log/YaST2/y2log.save as attachment with mime type "text plain" to this bug. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=220712 ------- Comment #6 from jsmeix@novell.com 2006-11-16 06:41 MST ------- Regarding comment #5: The PostScript PPD is not buggy. Use whatever printer config tool you like (e.g. YaST) to change the default for "InputSlot" from "Tray1" to "Tray2" if "Tray2" should be the default for you, for example use root@host# lpadmin -p <queue-name> -o InputSlot=Tray2 Furthermore make sure the default "PageSize" in the PPD matches to what the actual paper size in the printer is. Most PostScript printers won't print without user confirmation if you send it e.g. letter documents but there is A4 paper in the printer and vice versa. Also make sure the application which produces the document produces it for the right paper size (in particular if you print from OOo). Print the YaST test page to check if it works for the printing system or if it depends on the particular application. For some background info see http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:CUPS_in_a_Nutshell#Command-line_Tools I will not change the defaults in the PPD now because the PPD is the original PPD from HP and I would have to ask HP whether or not their defaults are right for most cases. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=220712 ------- Comment #7 from Joachim.Reichelt@helmholtz-hzi.de 2006-11-16 08:03 MST ------- I tried Tray 1 and Tray 2 with no differenz I can print without problems from inside OO 2.0.4 (no button to push) The WIN driver offers for tray "printer default" (wich is in most cases the best. I thought, this may be HP's fault (and Copyright) The PPD states: Tray 2 and 3 are installable. So I have manual feed and tray 1. On my SUSE 10.0 I have a "HP LaserJet 1320 Foomatic/Postscript (recommendet)" driver, that works fairly good.
