One thing I can think of what might be causing this but you can't recreate it is I newly installed Opensuse 11 to the harddrive that had 10.3. One thing I can think of what might be causing this but you can't recreate it is I newly installed Opensuse 11 to the harddrive that had 10.3. I didn't bother re-formatting it before the installation.

I right-clicked on the panel and chose "Add to Panel..". Then typed "menu" in the "Find and item to add to the panel:" box. I found "Traditional Main Menu" in the selections. And I clicked it to add it to the panel. From the menu, I chose an application in it and right-clicked on it then chose "Add this launcher to panel". I tried both checking "Lock to panel" and unchecking "Lock to panel" after I added the launcher. But in either case, it was gone after I relogged in. I had only two users; this normal user "toshi" and "root". "root" never had this problem. So, I created another user "toshi2" to test. This problem doesn't happen to the new user "toshi2". Yeah, the permissions look wrong. Maybe some 'chmod -R u+rwX ~/.gconf' would help?
