[Bug 486624] New: March 17 online-update of dbus-1 and ConsoleKit breaks NetworkManager & Atheros wireless
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=486624 Summary: March 17 online-update of dbus-1 and ConsoleKit breaks NetworkManager & Atheros wireless Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: drankinatty@suddenlinkmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=280445) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=280445) relevant syslog for failure and repair User-Agent: Opera/9.64 (X11; Linux x86_64; U; en) Presto/2.1.1 Devs, The March 17 online update of dbus-1 and ConsoleKit packages on 11.0 x86_64 with kde3 killed the function of NetworkManager rendering the Atheros wireless (AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev 01)) inoperative through either knetworkmanager or the traditional ifup configuration. The kernel module is ath_pci from the madwifi-r3725+AR5007EG-2.2 package. The broken dbus-1 and/or ConsoleKit packages are one of the following: ConsoleKit-0.2.10-14.4.x86_64.rpm ConsoleKit-32bit-0.2.10-14.4.x86_64.rpm ConsoleKit-x11-0.2.10-14.4.x86_64.rpm dbus-1-1.2.1-15.4.x86_64.rpm dbus-1-32bit-1.2.1-15.4.x86_64.rpm dbus-1-devel-1.2.1-15.4.x86_64.rpm dbus-1-x11-1.2.1-18.4.x86_64.rpm After update there was no way to make the wireless connect to the AP (Linksys WRT54G -- security: WPA/RSN) with (1) knetworkmanager, (2) knetworkmanager from the command line or (3) switching the card configuration to traditional ifup and issuing ifup ath0. The laptop is a Toshiba 205D. Setting a fixed IP had no effect. Further, looking at my wireless network with knetworkmanager, no connection was available while the essid was hidden. Checking with 'wlanconfig ath0 list scan' and 'iwlist ath0 scan' showed the AP without any problem. Enabling essid broadcast allow knetwork manager to see the AP, but it still would make no attempt to connect. Looking at the updates installed on 3/17, I downgraded the packages to: ConsoleKit-0.2.10-14.2.x86_64.rpm ConsoleKit-32bit-0.2.10-14.2.x86_64.rpm ConsoleKit-x11-0.2.10-14.2.x86_64.rpm dbus-1-1.2.1-15.2.x86_64.rpm dbus-1-32bit-1.2.1-15.2.x86_64.rpm dbus-1-devel-1.2.1-15.2.x86_64.rpm dbus-1-x11-1.2.1-18.2.x86_64.rpm Wireless immediately started working again. Something is definitely broken in the 3/17 updates. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Just update, wireless dies 2. 3. Actual Results: knetwork manager and ifup do nothing to activate the wireless card Expected Results: everything to keep working as before the last online-update the dbus update is also broken on 10.3 flooding syslog with errors. Let me know what else to send.
