It works for me with other gnome applications. For example, if I start gedit and go through the menu, orca speaks what menu item is just selected, ... When I write some words in gedit, orca automatically speaks what I write. It does not work in OOo. I tried it with openSUSE-11.0-x86_64 and the OpenOffice_org-3.0.0.3.6 packages from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/OpenOffice.org:/STABLE/openSUSE_11... I am sure that I have OpenOffice_org-gnome installed and that the GTK widgets are used (tried to rename libvclplug_gtklx.so and got different widgets, ...) Thorsten, are you able to get it working with the official OpenOffice_org-3.0.0.3.6 packages or just with your local build? Do I need to enable something special in OOo? Do I need to press a special key to make orca speak in OOo? It does not work with the kdm3 display manager. I have got it working the following way: 1. login to the text console as root 2. run "init 3" to stop the graphical display manager 3. set the variable DISPLAYMANAGER="gdm" in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager 4. run "init 5" to start the display manager 5. login into GNOME 6. started "Assistive Technologies" in the GNOME control center 7. Enabled the check-box "Enable assistive techonologies" 8. pressed the button "Preferred applications" in the same dialog 9. Selected the tab "Accessibility" 10. Enabled the check box "Run at start" below the Orca combo-box 11. pressed the button "Close" 12. clossed the "Assistive Technologies" dialog 13. closed the GNOME control center 14. log-out from GNOME 15. logged again 16. starter OOo There was a workaround with KDE display manager; I needed to start openoffice once with the command: GTK_MODULES=gail:atk-bridge ooffice then the GTK_MODULES were set correctly even after re-login. I do not understand what is the difference between kdm and gdm. Michael, what do you think?
