[Bug 231687] New: Package Selection - Default Preselections
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=231687 Summary: Package Selection - Default Preselections Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: AutoYaST AssignedTo: ug@novell.com ReportedBy: beckera@softrends.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Environment: x86 notebook, openSUSE 10.2 installed from Retail DVD media Product: X-windows version of AutoYast ( Intent: Create an AutoYast autoinstall control file to set up a series of other machines, having no resemblance to this x86 notebook. Problem: Open Autoyast for the first time, then go to Package Selections. Look at Patterns or individual packages, and every package that is physically installed to the notebook is checked. Right-click any selection box, and options like "keep", "delete" (which are appropriate for already installed items) appear. When found, tried clicking the Reset button, tried loading a control file after deleting all the package and pattern selections, tried other things. Found no means to clear the package selections and start with a clean slate. Workaround: wipe out 10.2 and reinstall with a minimal set of packages installed, then hope that the dependency resolution will work properly. Used AutoYast extensively in SuSE 10.0, and it did not work this way. The system on which an autoinstall profile is constructed may have nothing to do with the type or use of install the profile is intended for. At the very least, a means is needed to clear any default package preselection. Apologies if I missed something that will do this. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=231687 ------- Comment #1 from Joseph.Comfort@asu.edu 2007-01-04 11:27 MST ------- (In reply to comment #0) I agree that there is something basically wrong with the implementation of patterns. I made a comment on the opensuse mailing list on Jan. 2 about a similar issue. User override of pattern selections (including removal) is requisite. Real functional dependencies can be detected, as is the case with groups. 10.0 had a much easier way of copying customized package selections between computers (or on system reinstalls): the import/export features of the package manager through an ascii file. It got lost in 10.1. There is a 'critical' bug (156593) that is still outstanding. An ascii file can be prepared with 'rpm -qa'. All that is needed is to read the file and add or remove check marks from the package lists (as one does with the mouse). It should not be so hard. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

fixed for SP1 and 10.3
I need to make this work now, with 10.2 - I have things to do that won't wait for 10.3. Does this reference to "SP1" mean that a patch or updated package will be posted to your update servers?? If so, how soon? I assume that "SP1, is short for "Service Pack 1", and I am not familiar with the terminology "Service Pack" connected with any Linux distribution. Can you explain?? TIA, A. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=231687 ------- Comment #7 from beckera@softrends.com 2007-01-10 11:51 MST ------- Thanks gentlemen - appreciate the fix availability. I also filed bug #232434 regarding loss of manual package selections, which has also been noted as Fixed for 10.3.
