[Bug 500035] New: Intel GM965 - X.Org is very slow in rotated state (XRandR)
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=500035 Summary: Intel GM965 - X.Org is very slow in rotated state (XRandR) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: seldmail@gmail.com QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=289432) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=289432) xorg.conf file With Intel GM965 (HP 2710p tablet PC) in any rotated state (90, 180, 270 degrees) except normal, toggled by XRandR, the whole desktop is awfully slow (tried KDE3 and KDE 4.2). Tried moving windows, scrolling pdf's, web-pages, etc. Screen refresh rate seems to be about 2 - 5 hertz. Tried packages from both default repository and /X11:/XOrg. Some time ago it was fixed in /X11:/XOrg repository, but later it reappeared again. At the moment I downgraded to default packages for openSUSE 11.1, so attached log is with default X.Org packages installed. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

That the issue has been addressed temporarily in some driver version in the past I can't believe. Are you using desktop effects, which you might have disabled for the time you've seen improvements in rotate performance?
I don't know, whether someone has tried to fix that bug or not. What I know for sure is that I saw performance degradation just as a result of downgrading packages and restarting X.Org, _nothing more_. By downgrading I mean installing default packages instead of packages from /X11:/XOrg repository). After another update /X11:/XOrg packages became affected too. If I had all that old versions of these /X11:/XOrg packages at my disposal (but it is not possible or is it?), I would surely try to find out, beginning with which version number packages become affected by this bug again. In fact this problem existed in openSUSE 11.0 too. But having some troubles with tablet function of my PC, I installed newer packages from openSUSE 11.0 /X11:/XOrg repository, and performance degradation in rotated state was thereby fixed. I don't use Compiz/Beryl etc, but I use KDE3 kwin and KDE4 compositing. Disabling them makes no difference. Neither removing these line from xorg.conf does. Option "Composite" "on" By the way, similar bug exists in X.Org own bug-system, just for another Intel chipset. http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20412 I wrote a couple of comments about my video card, and asked, whether I should open a new bug, but guys just seem to ignore me. Hmm, maybe I'm doing something wrong. So opened bug here, hoping hoping it helps more with fixing the problem. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

bugs.freedesktop.org is definitely the right place to report intel driver issues.
So, to report straight to bugs freedesktop.org, should I uninstall openSUSE X.Org packages and install newest X.Org drivers from git instead of them, and then somehow install 2.6.29 kernel and turn that GEM manager on? (If I even knew how to do it...) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
