[Bug 218089] New: "eth0 renamed to ath0" ???
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=218089 Summary: "eth0 renamed to ath0" ??? Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 1 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: danw@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de I see this in dmesg: eth0: forcedeth.c: subsystem: 01462:0300 bound to 0000:00:05.0 ... eth0 renamed to ath0 I have no idea why it is doing that, and it makes NetworkManager unable to see the card (although it still works via ifup). Long ago, I had a PCI ath card in this machine, so it's possible there's a lingering reference to it somewhere in /etc, although I can't find it (but I don't really know where to look). I don't have the madwifi packages installed currently. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

That must be '=='. (Udev was less strict in former releases. Therefore this hits you now and not earlier.) These rules are written from /lib/udev/rename_netiface. But afaik there was never a version of rename_netiface in an official product, that did this mistake. I guess this rules are inherited from some beta-version of an older former product. This is not a fresh installation, isn't it? Please just remove these buggy udev rules. They will be newly created at next boot automatically. Please verify that. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

This is not a fresh installation, isn't it?
No. I don't remember how long ago I originally installed it, but I've definitely had alpha/beta versions installed since then. It works fine after removing that file. Still, it seems like it would be better to warn or ignore the line if it has a syntax error rather than doing the wrong thing? *shrug* -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

At least 'SYSFS{address}=' can not be a valid assigment, can't it? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
