I have a couple of DL380s running 11.4 downstairs, I don't recall having any problems with 11.4 and cciss.

How did you determine that your Smart Array was not recognised? At which point did the installer hang? Please provide the yast2 logs, the save_y2logs script will assist you.

During installation procedure partitioner claims that /dev/sda exists and there are no /dev/cciss/... devices. If I create partitions on /dev/sda installation continues and after 1 - 5 min system hangs during arbitrary packages processing. I made several tries with the same result. Now this system is running under 11.3. When I will do this work for the next time I'll send you a log if it can be possible to extract it from failed system. We can make this work together by Skype. That is weird. I'd like to know what that /dev/sda is.

The next similar device (RAM=36Gb is the only diff) works well with some workaround: 1. loading from HP SmartStart DVD 2. create RAID and logical disks 3. start to install Windows 4. when installer requires to insert Windows DVD reboot from OpenSuse installation After that partitioner can work with partition table. Without step 3 partitioner claim that it can not read and write partitions. The only way to install 11.4 on a new HP Proliant DL380G6 is: 1. Boot from supplied HP SmartStart (no matter 8.30 or the newest one 8.70 version) 2. Run HP Array Install and Diagnostics application 3. Configure desired RAID 4. Run Install application 5. Choose to install any of x86_64 based Windows OS. Application makes some work and then ask to insert Windows CD/DVD. 6. Insert OpenSuse 11.4 x86_64 DVD and reboot the system 7. After usual installation update all BIOSes to newest versions. Without this update Linux will sometimes reboots suddenly. 8. YAST always gets an error while tries to write it. I don't know what actions of HP installation batch procedure makes sense. Sudden reboots described by HP and they gives a patch (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c0195... is the last mention, we use the older patch set from the beginning of 2011, I think that problem concerns Power Management Controller or/and System Programmable Logic Device and it's firmware). HP still bites on their bugs :-) I can not find any usefull information in system logs. I'll try again when will install yet one server if you strongly interested. Another problem concerns Video Controller. Xen works under the only fbdev driver. /etc/X11/xorg.conf needs to be configured manually: Section "Device" Identifier "fbdev" Driver "fbdev" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "fbdev" Device "fbdev" EndSection Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Layout" Screen "fbdev" EndSection And in this configuration windows of the guest WinXP on console scroll extreme slowly. With last OpenSuse patches Xen will not works at all after reboot until recompile and reinstall from sources! Opensuse 12.1 installation sets incorrect video mode after Install option of booted distr DVD selected similar to 11.4 version. Installation forwards on when followed boot options are specified: apm=off powersaved=off edd=off nozh=off nomodeset vga=0x317 And after packages have been installed and yast2 has been started system still switch a video to incorrect mode, can't continue installation.
