[Bug 396188] New: Networking: Laptops should get "On Connection"
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=396188 Summary: Networking: Laptops should get "On Connection" Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: RC 1 Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mglenn@cco.state.oh.us QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Beta-Customer Hi. I would like to suggest that when a laptop install is detected, when the network card(s) are initially configured that they are set to initialize On Connection, rather than On Boot. On Boot really doesn't make a lot of sense with a laptop, and it would just be one less thing to chase down during post-install. I don't agree with that because: - for laptop users NetworkManager is proposed - NetworkManager has it's own plugged/unplugged detection and don't use ifplugd ("On Boot") option
Okay; I can see that, now that I've read-up on the new NetworkManager package.
Only what I can do is better document this behavior. Do you agree with that?
Yes, please. I've run seriously afoul of NetworkManager these past several days. I didn't realize you shouldn't define interfaces to ifplugd on install if the connections were to be dynamic/user managed. So, both NetworkManager and ifplugd ended up trying to manage same network interfaces. The result was quite a mess. :P -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
