I think it should solve your problem. There seems to be a second problem in the same function, though. If I'm not mistaken, with the current code it can happen that when two chunks of contiguous clusters are divided by some free clusters, it will still try to do a combined write even if each clusters is only contigiuous for itself, but not in combination with the other one and the free space.
