[Bug 534415] New: SaX2 adds not existing font paths to xorg.conf
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=534415 Summary: SaX2 adds not existing font paths to xorg.conf Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Milestone 6 Platform: i686 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: SaX2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: schaefer.frank@gmx.net QAContact: sax2-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=315315) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=315315) YAST-logs User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.9.1.2) Gecko/20090730 SUSE/3.5.2-2.1 Firefox/3.5.2 I already noticed this in at least the last 3 releases of openSUSE: Something adds lots of FontPaths to the "Files" section in xorg.conf which do not exist (and have never been there) on my installation. See warnings in the attached Xorg.0.log. Today I installed openSUSE 11.2 M6 and everything was fine after the installation (and an additional reboot). Then I started Sax2 (tried to find the keyboard-settings ;-) and adjusted the screen resolution). At the next system start, the font warnings occured for the first time, so it must have been SaX2 which has added these paths. See attached YAST-logs. The last package-installations were made when the warnings were already there (forgot to save the logs). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

OK, so this means SaX2 adds font paths ahead / for reasons of precaution ???
Exactly.
Well, then I could open a bug-report about lots of missing font paths...;-)
Which ones are missing?
Thinking about it for a minute: why does SaX2 has to manage fonts generally ?
Because it's still our tool to generate a static X configuration.
Isn't that the job of the package or application or user that installs the new font ?
We didn't want all kind of hacks in packages rewriting xorg.conf for that purpose.
If they don't add the necessary lines to xorg.conf, it's not fault of SaX2 !? In fact. And Sax2 can only correct mistakes of others if it is called...
Whatever. Since we're currently trying to get rid of SaX2 this discussion is obsolete anyway. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
