RE: Bug #154291
For some unknown reason, Novell bugzilla refuses to let me edit my own bug
report so you folks get a *new* bug that references the old bug. The Bug
#154291 is marked "LATER" and it is "later" *now*.
Summary is that Linux kernel cannot be installed properly on any x86 system
that uses Multiple PCI Domains(MPD) also known as ACPI Segments.
The CONFIG_PCI_DOMAIN option is missing from the current openSUSE
kernel(2.6.20-2) due to not having the MPD problem's fix in the kernel.
This BLOCKS any proper installation of *SUSE from occurring on such systems so
am marking as BLOCKER initially.
It appears that kernels since 2.6.18.* -mm2 have had the new fix(
git-pciseg.patch ) in them. Currently 2.6.20-mm2 still has it which I view as a
good sign... previous 'fix' did not last that long. Looks like git-pciseg.patch
has a fighting chance anyway.
On that note, it is "LATER" now so this issue needs to be REOPENED so that we
can get CONFIG_PCI_DOMAIN=y in the openSUSE-10.3 2.6.20.* kernel and finally,
hopefully, resolve this long standing issue for the Linux kernel.
Greg, at least, needs to be on cc list but the previous Greg Kroah-Hartman

If it gets added to the mainline kernel, then we will pick it up there, I suggest working with the upstream developers to ensure that it gets in if it is important for you. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
