[Bug 450845] New: Users cannot write media via K3b
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=450845 Summary: Users cannot write media via K3b Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: RC 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE3 AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: rodneyp@pcug.org.au QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Community User Created an attachment (id=257216) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=257216) systemlog since reboot When a user starts K3b a dialogue appears warning that the user does not have privilege to write to /dev/sr0. "No CD/DVD writer found. K3b did not find an optical writing device in your system. Thus, you will not be able to burn CDs or DVDs. However, you can still use other K3b features like audio track extraction or audio transcoding or ISO9660 image creation." Dialogue is the same for both KDE3 and KDE4 The dialogue offers several corrective actions: 1. is to use K3bSetup, to amend privileges. However, the feature K3bSetup has been removed from the K3bSettings menu some releases ago and there appears to be no command line equivalent remaining. 2. is to use udev - configuring that manually is likely to be beyond most beginners. A temporary fix is to allow "others" write privilege to /dev/sr0, but that will be lost with the next reboot. By default, users have no read privilege to /dev/sr0 either. Perhaps this is why optical media are not automounted and attempting to mount via System -> Storage Media produces the error message: org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-removable auth_admin_keep_always -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
