I expect first should already help. Maybe you have a configuration in BIOS options to switch apic/pic? If you can setup a serial console and first parameter helped, it would help if you can boot with apic=debug, copy away the hang message from the remote computer and send output. You should see output if you get read of the vga= boot option. Press ESC in grub menu, press e on the boot entry to modify, delete the vga= option then press enter and b for booting the entry. Best is you also add earlyprintk=vga then you must see something... Unfortunately you need a serial console, e.g. a crossed serial cable and a second machine to C&P the output before the hang. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=229264 ------- Comment #2 from trenn@novell.com 2006-12-21 08:36 MST ------- What board is this? Is this an Nforce CK804 chipset? If yes, it's a duplicate of bug #227472 and should set as such. AFAIK Andi knows about this... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=229264 ------- Comment #3 from herbert@der-linuxladen.de 2006-12-21 11:48 MST ------- Hi Thomas, you are right - boot option noapic helps. But what dont work with this option? The MSI M670 is a Notebook, deliverd from MSI with SLED10. The Chipset is a nVidia C51MV In the BIOS is no switch apic/pic, ownly a option 'adwanced power save', default=disabled. I tried enabled, but still the installation hang after loading Linux Kernel. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

With the newer Nvidia chipsets this does not work anymore because they don't have HPet (only not enabled?) and fall out of the blacklist. Hmm if you can enable HPet in BIOS it could work. If it's that one, Andi knows about it, he comes back from vacation in the new year... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=229264 ------- Comment #5 from herbert@der-linuxladen.de 2006-12-28 12:57 MST ------- Hi Thomas, the installation worked when with the boot option noapic. it seems that the foult is ownly on the kernel of the install CD. onze installed the system works fine (for me) - meens i can't find any biger probs. if the installation with the boot option noapic ownly set the install process to noapic, plase lett me know. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=229264 ------- Comment #7 from herbert@der-linuxladen.de 2007-01-10 07:18 MST ------- the problem is only there, if i boot from the install CD/DVD. the installation works, if i set the bootoption noapic when booting with the install medium. once installed the system starts normaly, without setting ony bootoptions. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
