Describe how you could reproduce the error (on another machine) precisely. Re-running "yast2 sound" does not give an error message, but does not change the situation either. At other times the soundcoard is found and works, even without re-running "yast2 sound". After the last cold boot it worked, but it was more than once that it didn't work. I have not found any regular pattern to explain when it works and when not. Since this error occurs on this particular machine with SuSE 10.2 alpha 5, I don't understand what you mean by "reproduce the error (on another machine)". I have already attached the output of "hwinfo" (previous attachment). The PC is a ready-made system (quite new) called Fujitsu-Siemens Scaleo PA. There are many variants, the one I have is called LKN:GER-889221-149 The mainboard is from ASUS and is called M2R-FVM. according to the mainboard manual, the sound chip is Realtek® ALC883 8-Kanal-Azalia-CODEC What other info do you need? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

If the entry appears, the driver is loaded. If there is no entry in /proc/asound/cards, check whether snd-hda-intel module is listed via lsmod. If no snd-hda-intel module appears in the module list, check the kernel messages log. There should be messages regarding azx or snd-hda-intel. Finally, try to load the module manually as root simply via # modprobe snd-hda-intel The symptom sounds rather like a hardware problem, though... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=214527 ------- Comment #5 from tiwai@novell.com 2006-10-25 05:41 MST ------- It's possibly a conflict with cx88 driver and sound driver. Try to add the module option index=1 for cx88-alsa module, e.g. add the following line to /etc/modprobe.d/sound (or a new file) options cx88-alsa index=1 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

But since the error occured only sometimes (i.e. even in the old configuration it sometimes worked), I cannot say for sure that this addition of "options cx88-alsa index=1" really fixed the problem. Maybe it did. Surely not alsaconf, at least not willingly. I am now struggling with 10.2 beta 1, where X doesn't work.
