[Bug 218620] New: Novell is now a Microsoft Partner
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=218620 Summary: Novell is now a Microsoft Partner Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 1 plus Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Keywords: Bad_Design, Customer_Relevant Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: Development AssignedTo: pth@novell.com ReportedBy: towsonu2003@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de I am just going to quote distrowatch on this: "Novell, what have you done now? Was this really necessary? As the news about the partnership between Novell and Microsoft hit the wires[1], many Linux users and community news sites expressed extreme bewilderment and utter disbelief over the deal. Although the agreement has more to do with software patents and mutual protection from law suits -- and is therefore better suited for analysis by sites that know more on the subject (see Groklaw's Novell Sells Out[2] and The Morning After[3]) -- this sentence[4] from Microsoft's CEO Steve Ballmer makes it very clear what the deal means for the world's largest software company: "If a customer says, 'Look, do we have liability for the use of your patented work?' Essentially, if you're using non-SUSE Linux, then I'd say the answer is yes." That statement is enough to convince any Linux user that this is not an agreement that should be applauded and that Novell has done a terrible disservice to the Linux community at large. What a huge disappointment after several years of being an absolutely wonderful community player!" Hence, opensuse should claim its independence from Novell and stay with the community. Partnership with Microsoft is a blocker for too many Linux users to ignore... Though you obviously seem not to be a Novell employee, it is always nice to avoid "unethical, dishonest, reckless, damaging, or disruptive" behavior in bugzilla.
We sometimes have to break the rules, when needed, specially when somebody is trolling in brainless-chicken mode. If you are interested in the comunity response please look at the mailing lists http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2006-11/ and no, we are not going away, nor we are leaving and the hell is still very hot. I hope sombody in Novell can mark this bug as private so this nonsense discussion can end or continue in an appropiate place. Yes, You can leave, and we urge you to if your don't like this, people that works and do something for the proyect are still happy to work with us. Im not a novell employee I don't represent them, I voice from the comunity here. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=218620 ------- Comment #10 from towsonu2003@gmail.com 2006-11-06 21:37 MST ------- You know what, I am sick and tired of you people screaming, cursing, and swearing at me. What's wrong with you? What's with the attitude? What's with the constant misreading of my bug report? You basically flamed my report from the beginning. Your handling of this report was inept, incompetent, and awkward at best. This bug did NOT mention that I was going to leave opensuse. The bug report quoted the distrowatch author as a way to support my point that opensuse should go independent. You people obviously are too sensitive on this issue, so you can't even concentrate and read a simple bug report, let alone closing it with decency. This bug is telling you to SEPARATE the development of opensuse from Novell because of the deal between Novell and Microsoft. opensuse is a community effort, and due to this deal it is loosing ground. it is bad PR, and it is going to hurt opensuse's development in the long run. Do whatever you want to do with this bug report, be it marking as private, deleting it, finding some other way to hide it, or whatever. I have no idea why that threat should scare me away, along with all the cursing and name calling and etc. I'm not gonna reopen the bug, but I have to note that I am stumped by the fantastically unskilled bug triagers who handled it so far. The only somewhat helpful piece of comment was the link in comment7 . However, even that could have been better: http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2006-11/msg00042.html http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2006-11/msg00126.html Good luck to opensuse with such ineffective bug triaging... I wish this report was handled with more skill and decency. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Please use the mailing list, bugzilla is **the wrong place**.. enlight us why we should , and why you think this is a a threat against openSUSE at all. ( with facts, not media articles, nor personal opinions) Our mission is to deliver a working linux OS for you, based on the OSI principles not being a vehicle for ideologies or political ideas. Free software is free even for Microsoft no ? ;-) or free for only of those we agree ? ask yourself that question. thank you. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
