[Bug 621830] New: Dual screen does not work for Intel 82Q35
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=621830 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=621830#c0 Summary: Dual screen does not work for Intel 82Q35 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: g.wirken@interexperts.nl QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=375495) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=375495) Screenshot of the error message. User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.6) Gecko/20100625 Firefox/3.6.6 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET4.0C) Dual screen is not working in OpenSUSE 11.3 on a Dell Optiplex 755 with an Intel 82Q35 graphics card. That is: dual screen does not work when the screens are arranged next to each other (horizontally). Vertically arranging does work. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open the Display Preferences tool from the Control Center (Gnome). 2. Click on the second monitor and enable it. Make sure the monitors are arranged horizontally. 3. Click Apply. Actual Results: A balloon pops up from the notification area with the following message: The selected configuration for displays could not be applied requested position/size for CRTC 58 is outside the allowed limit: position=(1280, 0), size=(1280, 1024), maximum=(2048, 2048) Expected Results: The second display should be enabled and the desktop should be extended to it. It seems that the virtual desktop is limited to 2048x2048. I do get the desired horizontal dual-head setup when both displays are set to 1024x768. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Please remove the Virtual line above in xorg.conf - or even better do not use any xorg.conf any longer. It's no longer required. That should help. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Unfortunately, this doesn't help. I have removed xorg.conf, rebooted and then tried to set-up the extended desktop, but I still get the same error: Requested position/size for CRTC 58 is outside the allowed limit: position=(1280, 0), size=(1280, 1024), maximum=(2048, 2048) I will upload the Xorg.0.log, if you need more information or log files I'm happy to attach them. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 2048 x 1024, maximum 2048 x 2048
So still limited to a max resolution of 2048x2048. I'm trying to reproduce on a G33 desktop machine (Device ID 8086:29c2 instead of 8086:29bc), which should behave the same. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

New installation would be preferred, since you obviously have a messed up system anyway.
I mean new installation of the complete system here. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Argh! Apparently you use an old Xserver and old X driver. No idea how you managed that with an openSUSE 11.3 installation/upgrade. Downgraded your Xserver stack manually? Issues during update to 11.3?
Please make sure to update to the 11.3 packages of
- xorg-x11-server - xorg-x11-driver-video - libdrm - Mesa

Huh! That's very strange. I will reinstall the system in a few days and check back here, but probably the problem would be fixed by then. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
