[Bug 412548] New: repair system: add select system to repair, allow re-installation of a package
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=412548 Summary: repair system: add select system to repair, allow re- installation of a package Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: Ulrich.Windl@rz.uni-regensburg.de QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- I had a problem with a non-booting system due to a bad initrd. When trying to repair the system, I noticed that the repair system does not allow selection of the system to repair if there are multiple systems installed. Also none of the repair tools could solve my problem! The correct fix most likely would have been to reinstall the kernel package, but that was not possible. So the option to (re-)install an arbitrary package from the rescue system would be quite helpful. Alternatively add a "re-install boot areas" function might help. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Actually it does. What did you really try?
So the option to (re-)install an arbitrary package from the rescue system would be quite helpful. Alternatively add a "re-install boot areas" function might help.
Such option is there: run Expert Tools -> Verify packages. Once the check is done, check the output list and you can reinstall the packages which reported some problems. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

AFAIR I started the expert tools, and I was offered no selection.

In the special case the software (kernel) verified OK, but there was something wrong. The kernel installed was from Online-Update, but the kernel that worked was that from DVD. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Even if it was correctly verified, it can be reinstalled. Open the log with verification details (Show Log) and check "Also Show Successfully Verified Packages": select your package and check it for reinstallation. Well... it should work this way. If it does not, tell me. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
