https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=744312 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=744312#c0 Summary: Heavy timer interrupts on uhci_hcd Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: fred.blaise@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- I have heavy timer interrupts, usb related, that make even the mouse an issue: fblaise@snowball:~> procinfo Linux 3.1.9-1.4-desktop (geeko@buildhost) (gcc 4.6.2) #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Jan 27 08:55:10 UTC 2012 (efb5ff4) 2CPU [snowball.darthgibus.net] Memory: Total Used Free Shared Buffers Cached Mem: 6058616 4388724 1669892 0 84772 1371116 Swap: 8388604 0 8388604 Bootup: Tue Jan 31 14:37:12 2012 Load average: 2.04 1.83 1.35 6/528 3958 user : 0:29:13.96 33.1% page in : 3218254 disk 1: 127713r 75291w nice : 0:00:03.71 0.0% page out: 1599391 system: 0:14:58.38 16.9% page act: 128142 IOwait: 0:00:35.20 0.6% page dea: 0 hw irq: 0:00:00.19 0.0% page flt: 4232969 sw irq: 0:00:11.74 0.2% swap in : 0 idle : 0:42:50.45 48.5% swap out: 0 uptime: 0:44:10.24 context : 13705624 irq 0: 1324029 timer irq 21: 0 uhci_hcd:usb4 irq 1: 6357 i8042 irq 22: 3 ehci_hcd:usb1 irq 8: 1 rtc0 irq 40: 0 PCIe PME irq 9: 5367 acpi irq 41: 0 PCIe PME irq 12: 2464 i8042 irq 42: 0 PCIe PME irq 14: 2664 ata_piix irq 43: 0 PCIe PME irq 15: 0 ata_piix irq 44: 0 PCIe PME irq 16: 84691 uhci_hcd:usb5, nouvea irq 45: 0 PCIe PME irq 17: 42 uhci_hcd:usb6, firewi irq 46: 204447 ahci irq 18: 0 uhci_hcd:usb7, r592, irq 47: 1321 eth0 irq 19: 2 ehci_hcd:usb2 irq 48: 290379 iwl4965 irq 20: 188 uhci_hcd:usb3 irq 49: 633 snd_hda_intel Apparently, only some specific hardware is affected. Out of 3 pc's, only my t61p is affected. I tried to disable usb autosuspend to no avail. Even disabling USB in the bios didn't change a thing! The problem seems less if I plugin my wireless usb mouse in. But still a few hundreds interrupts/sec. Here is powertop verbiage: Top causes for wakeups: 49.2% (1880.0) [Rescheduling interrupts] <kernel IPI> 17.7% (677.0) VirtualBox 10.9% (416.0) [iwl4965] <interrupt> 3.6% (137.0) kworker/0:0 3.6% (136.0) thunderbird-bin Otherwise, in the top 2 lines, we can see: 47.0% (359.8) PS/2 keyboard/mouse/touchpad interrupt 20.5% (156.8) [Rescheduling interrupts] Please advise. Thanks, fred 1. Install fresh 12.1 (or kernel > 2.37 I think) 2. Launch procinfo 3. Notice the high number of interrupts (up to ~1000/sec) ADDITIONAL INFOS Also tried on Linux mint and kernel 3.0 and 3.2. Same issue. 32 bits the same also. I am currently on opensuse 12.1 64 bits. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
