The message said something about "ACPI tables were not found" which doesn't look like an X11 problem at all. Could you reproduce the problem if you boot the machine with the kernel parameter acpi=off -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=211239 ------- Comment #3 from a1tmblwd@netscape.net 2006-10-11 21:08 MST ------- The results presented above were obtained by booting and running the installer in safe mode. By the way the ACPI messages are displayed even when the "acpi=off" option is used. Also, if I use the default or no ACPI options the system hangs/crashes during the hardware configuration phase of the install. I'll see if canceling the hardware configuration phase gives me enough of a system to try running sax2. For what it is worth, since the release of SuSE 10.1 sax2 has not been able to configure the x server to run with the ATI Radeon 7000. The Radeon 7000 and Viewsonic A75f monitor are properly identified but x crashes and locks the system up. Only when the server is configured to use the VESA driver am I able to use x. The PC is being moved to a new location so it may take me a day to run the test. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=211239 a1tmblwd@netscape.net changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|RESOLVED |REOPENED Resolution|WONTFIX | ------- Comment #7 from a1tmblwd@netscape.net 2006-12-01 21:35 MST ------- My apologies for a taking so long to respond. The move took longer than planned. Power and network connection finally was provided yesterday. I was not able to perform the task requested in comment #2. The OS installation was never successfully completed on this machine. Seg-fault, power-off, and reboot always returns to installation GUI and hardware configuration. Disabling hardware configuration does not work (Yast2 gets invoked which brings on segmentation fault or system crash). Since I was not able to get beyond this point with 10.2-alpha5, I moved on to 10.2-RC1. My system is still experiencing problems with hardware configuration. No crashes or seg-faults. Display adapter undefined. Fortunately, installation goes to completion and I was/am able to log in text mode and do the following: # sax2 -r SaX: initializing please wait... SaX: your current configuration will not be read in SaX: access to your display has been granted SaX: ups lost card during probing... abort SaX: something went wrong while X was called with -probeonly SaX: try to call 'sax2 -p' and select a single device ? abort # sax2 -p Chip: 0 is -> ATI Radeon QD 00:12:0 0x1002 0x5144 PCI radeon Chip: 1 is -> SiS 5597/5598 VGA 00:19:0 0x1039 0x0200 PCI sis I got the display adapter up and running by using "sax2 -c 0". (This command works in RC1 but not alpha 5.) Compared to SuSE 9 and 9.2 the process took a much longer time to show signs of activity. Believing the system got hung up I abort the command the first time that I tried it. I recommend that a message be displayed warning users that the process may take some time. This problem appears to be a regression of a bug I filed long ago. It appears that sax2 ignores the "disabled" status of the on-board display adapter. Looks like the situation has improved with RC1. Probably it's the monitor probing, which tooks so long. Fortunately there are not so many machines with such gfx cards combination on the market and we don't have a SiS 5597/5598 for testing available. Therefore I'm closing this now as FIXED, since you have a workaround. There is a work-around but it is not the solution to buggy code. Sax2 was working in SuSE 10.0. (Might also be working in openSuSE 10.1 except for broken xorg x11 ATI driver.) You do not need to have the hardware. If you have a Sax2 fix email it to me and I'll test it. If you feel that you can not fix this bug mark it as "will not fix" and close it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
