[Bug 546023] New: Cups interface has bad rendering
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=546023 Summary: Cups interface has bad rendering Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Milestone 8 Platform: i586 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Live Medium AssignedTo: coolo@novell.com ReportedBy: gfarrell@netspeed.com.au QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=321950) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=321950) Image of the http://localhost:631/printers cups page User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090909 SUSE/3.5.3-1.2 Firefox/3.5.3 When accessing the CUPS interface at http://localhost:631, the rendering of the page is missing background colors, button images, etc. The interface works, but navigation is difficult because the usual cues are gone. Installed from openSUSE-KDE4-LiveCD-Build0308-i686.iso (M8) on an Acer D250 netbook (confirmed also on a desktop with an ASUS M3N-H/HDMI motherboard). The iso's md5sum was good. The installation is missing all the files in /usr/share/doc/packages/cups (the directories are there, but are empty). The string '/usr/share/doc/packages/cups' was not found in the YaST-> Software-> Software Management-> Search in 'File list' function. Replacing the /usr/share/doc/packages/cups directory contents with the files from an 11.1 installation fixed the problem. Selecting Update of the 'cups' package in YaST (from oss repository) also installed the files (the 11.1 files were deleted beforehand). It would seem that the files are included in the 'cups' package in the oss repository, but not in the openSUSE-kde-11.2-livecd-kde-read-only.i686-2.8.0 image on the M8 iso. The attached image shows the screen rendering. --- Comment #3 from Geoff Farrell
At first glance it seems it is an upstream issue that "make install" installs both the documentation and other files of the CUPS web interface whereto "configure --with-docdir=%{_defaultdocdir}/%{name}" specifies.
That doesn't seem to be the case. Installing the package from the oss repository caused the files to be installed to the correct place (well, at least the place that CUPS expects to find them). Therefore, it would appear that the compiled rpm is OK, but the process used by the Kiwi CD system doesn't collect the files for the LiveCD. Thus, they are absent until the 'cups' package is re-loaded from the oss repository. And yes, it does seem odd that files involved in CUPS's operation are placed in with documentation files, so I agree that that should be investigated for after 11.2. I reported this bug because I thought that the Kiwi CD build process may be faulty; that it was possible that more than just CUPS files could be involved; and wondered how many more bugs might be attributable to such missing files. It may be that a small bit of investigation into that possibility might have a bigger pay-off if this problem is not just confined to CUPS files. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
