https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=679178 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=679178#c0 Summary: boot stuck: Samsung N130 BUG: soft lockup CPU#0 stuck for ... seconds Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Factory Platform: i586 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: Joh.Lange@gmx.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=419002) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=419002) splash=off-screen User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090824 Firefox/3.5.3 GTB7.1 I am using a Samsung N130 netbook with Intel Atom N270 chipset: Intel 945GSE + ICH7M GPU: Intel GMA 950 I just installed openSUSE 11.4 As I boot openSUSE 11.4 it stucks at the loadscreen after GRUB, pressing Esc doesn't do anything. I tried to use "splash=off" manually in GRUB. That worked once, but not a for a second time, nor anytime later. It's the same with many other parameters: I tried "noapic, nomodeset, apic=off, ..). (By the way: I alreday tried waiting an hour before a new restart) I did a reinstallation and tried it again. The first startup worked, the second one did not. I tried "splash=off" again, it worked, but I remember to read "fb: conflicting fb hw usage ...". After a restart I get again: doing fast boot Creating device nodes with udev and some time later: http://img837.imageshack.us/i/p1050411ug.jpg/ Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Starting SUSE with "splash=off" as parameter in Grub. It works. 2. Shutdown the computer. 3. Repeat step 1: it does not work. Actual Results: I get this messages: http://img837.imageshack.us/i/p1050411ug.jpg/ It seems to be a solution to boot with parameter "nosmp" seems to work so far. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Please try to boot with intel_idle.max_cstate=0 instead of maxcpus=1.
Ok, this does not work. If I take that option and splash=off it looks like my very first attachment (https://bugzillafiles.novell.org/attachment.cgi?id=419002) but with other values. Do you need a picture of that screen? I can't take one at the moment, but if you need it, I could make one tomorow. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Well, so it looks like we've introduced the problem in the 2.6.37 cycle (or some time around).
Would you be able to test the latest 2.6.36.y kernel from kernel.org to confirm that it doesn't have the problem?
No. First it does not happen all the time and I do not want to run on .36 all the time. Second I do not have time to build a kernel. If you want people to test a kernel please use the buildservice and provide packages. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
