https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=389072 Summary: No tablet icon in YaST Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Factory Platform: Other OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: imanel@tlen.pl QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Beta-Customer When looking at "Hardware" tab in YaST2 there are options like "keyboard", "mouse", and "graphic card and monitor" all from SaX - but no "tablet" option witch is hidden under "graphic card and monitor" position. It is very confusing for newbie users to find how to setup tablet, with is very simple in openSUSE. Good solution for us would be: ------------------------------ User connected the tablet -> configuration module will pop up. After configuration the YaST/Sax Module "Tablet" is available via icon in the "Hardware" section.
Question: Can we do this?
I'm afraid we can't at the moment. 1. Probably our desktops KDE3/KDE4/Gnome/Xfce can't detect a Tablet on-the-fly. 2. I don't think the appearance of YaST module icons can depend on the detected hardware.
Otherwise we are forced to place the icon permanently in the Hardware section. This icon will open the sax2 configuration module "Tablet"
.. which would mean one more permanent YaST2 icon.
What's about the idea to summarize the "Human Input Devices" (thanks rlihm) via one icon. -> Tablet, mouse, joystick, keyboard.
Might be possible. Marcus?
I also suggest to keep the caption "Graphics Card & Monitor" In my ear "Graphics input/output" is difficult to understand for "normal" users.
I fully agree here.
- OS/X = Section: Hardware -> Item: Monitors - Widows XP = Section: Appearance & Themes -> Item: Display pop up of window: Display Properties -> Tab: "Settings"
I like "Display", which would cover 'Graphics Card', 'Monitor' and somewhat 'Touchscreen'. What about renaming "Graphics Card & Monitor" to "Display & Human Input Devices", which would cover everything SaX2 provides incuding Tablet configuration? I would keep the existing YaST2 modules for mouse and keyboard. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This would reflect the truth but will mix "input" and "output" devices and will produce some confusion for new users.
I wonder if following solution would be better:
Hardware
[Super- [Super- Icon] Icon]
Monitor Input-Devices
| | will show will show Monitor Mouse + Touchscreen + Keyboard + Tablet + Touchscreen
I'm afraid it's not possible to implement this. Either show one module or all. Marcus? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

those as said above ("Display, Keyboard, Mouse, etc.").
Or better "Display, Keyboard, Mouse, and Others", or something along these lines. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Just list some of those as said above ("Display, Keyboard, Mouse, etc."). .. which won't address the initial issue, that tablet is not mentioned. Probably it's the best not to change anything, since we can't agree on anything anyway. I'm afraid we'll end up with a solution, which is worse than before and changes the current behaviour.

Yeah, but nevertheless it addresses the issue indirectly. The user sees there is something more hidden, and will probably try it if there is nothing better that might him help to get the tablet working. If it's not too long, I'd probably vote to write "Display, Keyboard, Mouse, and Other Input Devices". -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
