[Bug 482525] New: regulatory domain for wireless should be setup by the startup scripts and/or networkmanager
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=482525 Summary: regulatory domain for wireless should be setup by the startup scripts and/or networkmanager Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Alpha 0 Platform: All OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: markus.kossmann@gmx.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Konqueror/4.2; Linux) KHTML/4.2.1 (like Gecko) SUSE Factory SUSE-11.2 will use kernel 2.6.29 or newer which uses the crda framework for setting up the allowed channels for mac80211 based wireless drivers. If you don't setup the regulatory domain, this framework will restrict you to channel 1-11 and you won't be able to connect to a wireless router which is running for example at channel 13. IMHO you should be able to use a wireless connection as replacement for a wired connection with no restrictions on channel choice. That requires that the regulatory domain setup is run before or during the basic network setup scripts. There are two options to to set the regulatory domain: iw or wpa_supplicant (version 6.7 or newer, factory is still at 6.4) . I would prefer using iw, because it doesn't restrict the setup to connections using wpa_supplicant. And it probably need needs less work to integrate it into the startup scripts. Also there is currently no option in NetworkManager to set the regulatory domain. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Setup your wireless router to channel 13 2.Startup factory 3. Actual Results: No wireless connection possible, startup scripts which depend on working wireless connection will get problems. Expected Results: wireless connection possible, -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
