Unmount as user is not possible. Message: umount: /home/fire/Server/public mount disagrees with the fstab As "root" the share can be unmounted. I suspect the symlink /etc/mtab to be the problem. If it is replaced by a "real" file unmounting as user will work like it used to do. In that situation, mount.cifs will hang for a while trying to lock the mtab. /bin/mount checks to see if the mtab is a symlink. If it is or if a stat() call on it fails, it doesn't try to to update the mtab.
