I have intel wifi link 5100 and opensuse 12.1 occasionally takes a very long time to find my WEP wireless connection.
Let's try if the AP can be found and connect. Would it be possible to go through these steps ? 1. logout from the desktop 2. switch to the terminal (Ctrl-Alt-F1) 3. login as root 4. switch to runlevel 3 (# init 3) 5 issue the command # iw dev wlan0 scan | grep "YOUR SSID" replace "YOUR SSID" with the ID of your AP 6. repeat the step 5 few times to see if the AP is visible and post the out put of the command 7. try to connect to the AP with the command: # iw dev wlan0 "YOUR SSID" key "YOUR WEP KEY" this is the syntax of the command (found with # wi help): iw dev <devname> connect [-w] <SSID> [<freq in MHz>] [<bssid>] [key 0:abcde d:1:6162636465] Join the network with the given SSID (and frequency, BSSID). With -w, wait for the connect to finish or fail. 8. post the output of the command # iw dev wlan0 link -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

How do I switch to runlevel 3?
Type "init 3 <enter>" as root on the command line. Feel free to ask any questions. Thank you for testing. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

When logging in as root, the connection was detected fine.
Yes, the AP has been detected, but the connect command is not correct. Would it be possible to try this one ? # iw dev wlan0 connect Silkweed key o:F40886681CEF1CF289BE0A5AA3 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I don't know how to log in using terminal and keep the text output without using script.
Just follow the steps in comment 1. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
