[Bug 267628] New: Dual CPU System only boots with maxcpus=0 option
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=267628 Summary: Dual CPU System only boots with maxcpus=0 option Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: martin.maletinsky@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de After upgrading my SuSE 9.2 system to SuSE 10.2 it only boots with the maxcpus=0 option. During Installation I had to set this option, since otherwise the the installation would hang (at the very beginning). Subsequently I noticed that the default kernel was configured with this option. When I removed maxcpus=0 (using Yast2), the system did not boot (a black screen appears quite at the begining of the boot process). Currently I am running with maxcpus=0 again, but I'd obviously like to utilize both processors. Please don't hesitate to contact me for further information (martin.maletinsky at gmail.com). I add the output of cat /proc/cpuinfo as well as the /boot/grub/menu.lst content for your information. Other people seem to experience similar problems (see http://www.linux-club.de/ftopic75078.html [in German]).
