The user's ~/.xsession-errors might be interesting too.
attache the newer one. I am not sure if the old xsession-errors contain useful information already :) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Most likely the drive issue. What is the output of running glxinfo?
I saw the similar issue, did /etc/X11/xorg.conf exist in your system? If so, try to rename it to like xorg.conf.bak and restart X to see if you can login (even use the fallback mode).
again. I can reproduce this issue on other machine (nvidia 9600 gt). crash does not happen for login by using local user account. The crash occurs only for nis user account. Anyway I attache glxinfo, hwinfo and nvidia installation output. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Luo,
According to the xsession-errors, I think this may be related to the incorrect or corrupt config/cache files. Either they are damaged, or you are using GNOME2 and GNOME3 with them at the same time. Can you clean up the NIS home directory? Or Try to remove ".cache", ".config" and ".local" on /suse/zluo.
Thanks, Joey
I removed .cache, .config and .local on /suse/zluo, but I still got the same crash as before. Attache new .xsession-errors. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

yes, as Dominique said, it is none of Tracker's business, because of "Application 'gnome-shell.desktop' killed by signal 11". Besides, I can also see "NVIDIA: could not open the device file /dev/nvidiactl (Permission denied)". So pleas also have a try to use "Failsafe" boot option with this NIS account to see if you are able to login.
Tried recovery mode to start op opensuse. Got "GNOME failed to load" message, click on close and the desktop stays, but it must be GNOME 2 then... Tracker can die in the session without tearing it down... so for this case it can be ignored...

/suse/zluo is on the nfs server in our network, not on local machine of course.
DBus seems also to have died out (could be the same reason, if $HOME is not reachable, I guess about anything can happen.

No, if I use NM, I'm not able to access nis-server, have to even restart ypbind and autofs manually (just an issue more then...) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It's gnome3 fallback mode. Are you using opensource NV driver? Also I am not very familiar with NIS account. Can you check if it is in local "video" group? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Are you using opensource NV driver?
No. however I use xorg-x11-driver-video-nouveau on other workstation. It doesn't occur problem like this.
Also I am not very familiar with NIS account. Can you check if it is in local "video" group?
No, but I don't think this has to do with video group. It has worked fine for openSUSE 11.4 and 12.1. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

GNOME 3 really needs proper HW 3D support and I guessed that the latest NV closed driver probably made some changes or needs some addtional configurations (give some permissions, etc?), which caused this issue. That can also explain why openSUSE 11.4 and 12.1 do not have such issue, and your .xsession-error shows "NVIDIA: could not open the device file /dev/nvidiactl (Permission denied)". If 3D support cannot be properly provided, GNOME 3 will not be able to run. As that relies on NV closed driver, and you don't have such issue with opensource driver, we cannot do anything here. Sorry. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
