[Bug 520083] New: OpenSuse Resolver Offers a Dependancy Option that causes More Issues Than it Resolves
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=520083 Summary: OpenSuse Resolver Offers a Dependancy Option that causes More Issues Than it Resolves Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Update Problems AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: alpha096@virginbroadband.com.au QAContact: jsrain@novell.com CC: schubi@novell.com, visnov@novell.com, dmacvicar@novell.com, alpha096@virginbroadband.com.au Found By: Customer Firstly my apologies for not correcting the old Bug details.I did go through all my open bugs today to cancel some of the dupes and to see of some bugs reported in March were in limbo. In all Today I cleaned up all dupes of mine and made small changes to bug that were obviously in limbo. The addition or change in the software database is always validated by our Resolver. Recently in aprox 10.3 we added an addition option that a user could select to resolve any conflict. The Option we made available, in the case of a conflict was "Ignore Some Dependency issues with nnnnnnnn" Selecting this option certainly does satisfy any conflict and permits the change/addition/deletion of software in the database to continue. The issue now is that the user does not know what actually occured to resolve the conflict. If the unknown action of selecting this option causes serious problems afterwards, the user has no idea how to revert the system back to its original state of no conflict in the software installed on the PC. If selecting this option to resolve a dependency, does cause hard, it is impossible to recover or revet to what may be an unstable system. I have selected this option on two occasions, and as I could not find out how the dependency was actually resolved, I was left with an unusable system. As the option removed the Default Video software driver that was auto installed when I added the Nvida repository, part of the damage caused by selecting this resolution option, left me with an unusable system. In Summary, the option leave the user with no knowledge of how the dependency was resolved and if it created a problem, the user cannot revert back to a stable system The Bug # 240555, which holds all other text information and screen shots and logs is still available if required as this bug remains a problem since 10.2 without any form of resolution nor constructive dialogue. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
