Yes, acroread does indeed display the document correctly when I delete all versions of "MS Mincho" from my system. I see only IPAPGothic in grep fonts /proc/$(pidof acroread)/maps and not KozMinproVI-Regular but apparently acroread does use KozMinproVI-Regular to display that document, what I see on the screen looks like KozMinproVI-Regular. For some reason it just doesn't show up in grep fonts /proc/$(pidof acroread)/maps So yes, it works in that case.
