http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=947193 Bug ID: 947193 Summary: Hushlogin settings in /etc/login.defs are ignored. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 13.1 Version: Final Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: david.westfall@red-inc.us QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- If a user has a .hushlogin in their home directory, they will get a hushed login regardless of what is configured in /etc/login.defs. If hushlogins is not configured in login.defs then hushlogin should not work, but the systems always responds to .hushlogin in a users home directory. This is a major problem where local security requires a MOTD. Users should not be able to bypass the MOTD. # # If defined, file which inhibits all the usual chatter during the login # sequence. If a full pathname, then hushed mode will be enabled if the # user's name or shell are found in the file. If not a full pathname, then # hushed mode will be enabled if the file exists in the user's home directory. # #HUSHLOGIN_FILE .hushlogin #HUSHLOGIN_FILE /etc/hushlogins Dave W -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
