http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=551356 Summary: Dropped connections Atheros AR9280 - ath9k driver regression? Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: maurice@debijl.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Opera/9.80 (X11; Linux i686; U; en) Presto/2.2.15 Version/10.00 Configuration: I'm using openSUSE 11.2 RC1 x86_64 (the GNOME Live CD installed to harddisk). My hardware: Acer Extensa 5630Z laptop, Atheros AR9280 half mini-PCI card wireless A/B/G/N, connected through A or G. I use WPA/PSK encryption. Problem: With Atheros AR9280 the wireless network connection drops often. It's restored in up to 10 seconds. My findings: 1) I don't have these problems with openSUSE 11.1 (also GNOME, x86_64), dual booted on same laptop. 2) It occurs both on 2.4 (802.11g) and 5.8 (802.11a) GHz. I don't use N yet. 3) I tried an Atheros AR9281 (wireless A/B/G - no N): no lockups but performance is not good Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install Atheros AR9281 wireless mini-PCI card 2.Connect to wireless network 3.Start surfing and experience long waits, see network manager notifying that the connection dropped and restoring the connection Actual Results: Dropped wireless connection Expected Results: Continous connection -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

With 2.6.32, I have no skips at all since two hours. So the patch made things a little bit better but not perfect.
Yep, it is known, that 2.6.32 is better in throughput. Nobody from developers knows what made the difference AFAIK.
Also the "Scan" in knetworkmanager shows the AP "much nearer" than with your kernel version.
Yes, there is a fix of RSSI reporting in 2.6.32. I'll probably fix that too and close this as upstream bug. Thanks for testing. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Just to make this clear again. The throughput is not only better with .32, it is really unacceptably bad in .31.
Could you elaborate on that? I have ar9280 and have the same performance both with .31 and .32. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
