My keyspan usb to serial converter has stopped working.
It shows up on the system and can be accessed but do data is transfered. I was using it for minicom, so with SuSE 10.2 i cannot connected to the serial console but it works fine on a SuSE 10 box.
The other guy is having problems with his "weather station".

I too am having this issue with 10.2 although I didn't try it wit an earlier version. I have a Keyspan USA-19HS adapter and mine also looks just fine in the system but I never get any response from the connection. I do see the light on the adapter blink with any keyboard activity when the serial connection is open and of course stops when I close the connection. If i can figure out how to post an attachment, I'll post a complete hwinfo after these comments. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=240919 ------- Comment #21 from sitongia@onebeam.net 2007-05-04 08:04 MST ------- Sorry to post into a resolved bug, but I can't see how to make use of the KOTD. I find little information about how-to in the Internet, or at opensuse.org or at Novell's opensuse support site. I am not sure which directory to use at ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/kernel/kotd/, but I guess it is HEAD. I don't see a changelog anywhere at that site. When I download and try to install the 2.6.21 kernel in HEAD, there are unresolved dependencies. In going from my current kernel of 2.6.18 to .21, won't I need to do a lot of stuff, such as building/installing modules, and other software? There's a conflict with the NVidia driver installed; will I need to acquire a compatible driver from NVidia? Alternatively, may I ask, as was asked before, will this patch appear in a new kernel distributed and installed through yast2? https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=240919 ------- Comment #22 from sci-licenses@sci.utah.edu 2007-05-04 09:45 MST ------- Leonard, Assuming you're on OpenSuse 10.2, then you'll want: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/kernel/kotd/SL102_BRANCH/ grab the kernel-default AND kernel-source rpms for your architecture, unless you need xen or something. You can either upgrade your current kernel if you're brave, but I would recommend installing those alongside your current kernel with "rpm -ivh". This will allow you to boot back into your working kernel with your nvidia driver if you need to. The only unsatisfied dependency from a fully patched opensuse 10.2 box that I ran into was that I needed a newer version of perl-bootloader; grab the latest from here: http://ftp.opensuse.org/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source... (look in i586 for 32-bit or x86_64 for AMD64). You'll need to reinstall your nvidia driver. Download the latest driver for your architecture from: http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html , reboot into the KOTD kernel, then execute it wth ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9755-pkg1.run (or x86_64), and follow the defaults. It should take about a minute or less to rebuild your driver. After that an "init 3; init 5" should get you going again. BTW, Greg, thanks for backporting that patch! I would leave to see this in the next automatically distributed kernel, since a quick look around reveals that most laptops are missing DB-9 serial ports now. -Eric Swenson Scientific Computing & Imaging Institute, University of Utah -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
