Maybe Xfce should be listed in the list of window managers (where you can select KDE, GNOME, Minimal text mode installation and minimal graphical system). If you select minimal + X installation pattern XDM is used. There is nothing what xfce can do about it. If you use KDM or GDM, you can select xfce as expected. Everytime you can put export WINDOWMANAGER=xfce4 in your ~/.profile.
