[Bug 216066] New: xorg-x11-libs-7.2-7 messes up menus and text in firefox & thunderbird
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=216066 Summary: xorg-x11-libs-7.2-7 messes up menus and text in firefox & thunderbird Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 1 Platform: i686 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: rmyster@gmail.com QAContact: sndirsch@novell.com After upgrading from 10.2a5 to 10.2b1, the drop down menus entries(like bookmarks) in firefox(1.5 or 2.0 versions) are truncated or missing. In addition, many message windows showed all text smashed together with the spaces removed between words. I tracked the problem down to the xorg-x11-libs-7.2-7 (described as "remaining X.Org libraries"). Downgrading back to xorg-x11-libs-7.1-17 from the alpha 5 distribution fixes the problem and restores proper functionality. This report is for informational purposes only. If no one else is seeing this same problem, disregard. This system was upgraded from 10.1 to 10.2 alpha5 and then to 10.2 beta 1. Only existing packages were upgraded and unmaintained packages were not removed during the upgrades. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I cannot reproduce this problem on an Intel 845G machine. Maybe this is gfx driver related. Could you attach /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log? If these will change with xorg-x11-libs-7.2-7, I'll need to update the package and send you the changed logs. I have not yet done a clean install on this system to see whether the problem is introdcued as part of the upgrade from alpha 5 to beta 1 though. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Honestly I don't think is a driver related bug, but it would be worth a try to verify this with a fbdev configuration. For configuration use sax2 -r -m 0=fbdev and give me feedback. Switch back to i810 driver with sax2 -r -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=216066 ------- Comment #7 from rmyster@gmail.com 2006-10-30 08:41 MST ------- Running "sax2 -r -m 0=fbdev" in runlevel 3 opens up the sax2 screen but the screen is split into two identical miniature windows on the top half with each window 1/4 the size of what otherwise would be a full screen. The text was so small that I could barely make out the cancel button and didn't proceed. "sax2 -r" which gave the proper full screen but as it looked ok, I cancelled it and didn't proceed as well. I wasn't able to get back to a gui by switching back to runlevel 5 (init 5) or even with startx and had to reboot to get a gui back. If I am the only one that has seen this problem with firefox & thunderbird, I'm inclined to let it alone since all is fine with the alpha 5 xorg-x11-libs-7.1-17 libraries and it may well disappear if I do a clean install. For what it does to the menus, others would have brought it up by now if it was widespread because it also affects the way web pages are displayed, especially pages that use javascript. Incidentally, not that it is related, I saw a similar miniature split screen as described above when I initially started up the install dvd for the with the boot option vga=0x31a . I didn't proceed there either and just did the install without any options and made the resolution change afterwards. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=216066 ------- Comment #9 from rmyster@gmail.com 2006-11-09 08:33 MST ------- Follow up: A clean install on this system using another hd is ok with no sign of the issue. It's likely just a conflict with pre-existing files. I did try the latest version in the factory folder(xorg-x11-libs-7.2-8) but the results are the same as xorg-x11-libs-7.2-7. Leaving status as resolved since it doesn't occur on a clean install indicating it's hot a hardware issue. Will continue to use xorg-x11-libs-7.1-17 on this upgraded system but will follow up if the beta 2 or future upgrades eliminate the glitch. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
