[Bug 515875] New: Latest 11.1 updates will not activate ICH9R RAID 1
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=515875 Summary: Latest 11.1 updates will not activate ICH9R RAID 1 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: michael.d.taylor@exgate.tek.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.21) Gecko/20090410 SUSE/1.1.16-1.8 SeaMonkey/1.1.16 I have a Supermicro server board with dual Quad core Xeons 24GB RAM that previously had OpenSuse 10.3 64-bit running on an Intel ICH9R RAID1 mirror. The initial OpenSuse 11.1 upgrade completed without any issues. After taking the online updates, it will not boot with a lot of messages about device-mapper and RAID sets not activated like the following: device-mapper: table: 253:0: mirror: unknow target type device-mapper: ioctl: error adding target to table device-mapper: target type "mirror" is not in the kernel Raid Set isw_bfachcdbia_RAID1 was not activated. I tried using the rescue system to mount /dev/mapper/isw_bfadhcdbia_RAID1_part7 to /mnt and use chroot to mkinitrd, but could not mount any filesystems. I was able to use the 11.1 DVD to "Update" the system back to 11.1 base. It rebooted fine and I just did not accept the online updates and have been fine so far. My RAID filesystems in /etc/fstab are of the form: /dev/mapper/isw_bfadhcdbia_RAID1_part7 / ext3 acl,user_ xattr 1 1 /dev/mapper/isw_bfadhcdbia_RAID1_part5 /boot ext3 acl,user_ xattr 1 2 while the grub menu is of the form: kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.27.7-9-default root=/dev/disk/by-id/raid-isw_bfadhcdbia_ RAID1-part7 resume=/dev/disk/by-id/raid-isw_bfadhcdbia_RAID1-part6 splash=silent showopts vga=0x31a Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install OpenSuse 10.3 on ICH9R RAID1 mirror 2. Upgrade to OpenSuse 11.1 final 3. Accept latest kernel update Actual Results: Unable to boot. Expected Results: The machine should boot. The kernel updates should correctly install on ICH9R BIOS RAID sets. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
